Every year on September 22 is a “world car free day”,it was firstly initiated by France, its purpose was to enhance people’s environmental protection consciousness , learn more about the damage of urban environment which the cars bring and encourage people to use public transport ,cycle or walk . Citizens from 35 cities in France volunteered to abandon cars driving on September 22, 1998, from then on, that day has been the “car free day” in France. Later, the “car free day” was written into environmental policy framework by European Union in February 2000, the day also became the “European car free day”, “international car free day”. Since then, this activity was spread to all over the world.
Though the aim is bright, there are also some questions, such as the number of cities which held “the world car free day” is decreasing and the activities’ scale is smaller. In despite of any trouble, the countries all over the world are trying their best to encourage people to cycle, through the effort, the environment will be improved in one day.
For city, it maybe a chance to reduce the pollution; for us, it can be a good way to exercise, especially for office workers, come on, guys!
