This years Junior Championships will be held in the mountains of Sierra
Nevada, Spain and will open on the 23rd of this month. The first
events will be snowboard cross, then on to the halfpipe, parallel GS, parallel
Slalom and ending on the slopestyle.
The first event was held way back in 1997 in <st1:country-region
w:st=”on”>Italy when this kind of sporting event was still in its start. The
first Championship was comprised of Giant slalom and Halfpipe events. Over time,
as the sport developed and so did the gear, more events were added, bringing us
up to today¡¯s 5 different events. The sport of snowboarding was first developed
during the 1960¡¯s and 70¡¯s and became an Olympic sport in 1998. During the early
90¡¯s it became popular and spread like wildfire among skiers and skateboard/
surfers alike who found that the winter ski parks could offer them another
thrill other than just skiing and building snowmen. The gear and boot types
developed overtime and became more and more specialized for different settings
and slopes, leading to new techniques and pushing the boundaries of human
abilities. This naturally led to developing appropriate clothing and apparel
fitting not only the fashion and style statements of the sport but also the
technical needs. This is ever so true of socks as well, as a break off from the
standard line of Ski Socks led to the re designing and fitting of socks to the
snowboarders needs and requirements. Though very similar to ski socks, in order
to answer the needs of different movement of the snowboarder and pressure areas
in the boot, they have slightly different reinforcements as in the back of the
calf too. They are somewhat slightly thicker when fitted for soft boots. Padding
on shins, sides and calf areas, extra protection for ankles and a supported arch
are crucial. Padding for the soles will prevent fatigue and a hand linked toe
seam will add levels of comfort. Choosing the correct materials is important as
these socks have to keep feet warm and dry as well as wick moisture away. By
using various mixtures of Thermolite® and or Wool/Merino Wool do the job well
for providing warm dry in-boot conditions insuring a pleasurable as well as
healthy experience. Max knitting has a long standing experience with supplying
some of the finest ski and snowboarding socks on the market, made of the highest
grade material, all styles have been tested and tried in the field as well as in
the lab for example the JY SS0045 and JY SS0060. The Maxmega line
of socks is specially attuned to the serious sports persons with designs such as
JY SS010 and JY SS0015 made of a wool blend that wicks moisture
and keeps warm as well as being light and soft.
Finally we would like to wish all contestants good luck and have fun!
